CASAA Application Timeline by Program
Compare CASAA deadlines and complete-file requirements at five programs, then build a schedule for your essay, recommendations, tests and supplements.
CASAA Application Timeline: Work Backward From a Complete File
A CASAA application timeline should begin with each program's definition of a complete application. The date you submit the central form may not be the date a school can review your file.
For the application windows shown below, the programs publish different dates, campus arrangements and completion requirements. Some use rolling review or can close at capacity. A later deadline at one school does not extend another school's window.
Our recommendation is to maintain one shared-materials checklist and a separate row for every destination. Put documents controlled by other people—references, transcripts and official scores—on the schedule before repeatedly polishing an essay that you can still edit yourself. That is a planning judgment, not a claim that early submission compensates for an incomplete or unsuitable application.
For the writing itself, use our CASAA personal-statement examples. The CASAA statement review assesses your draft; it does not audit an application portal or determine eligibility. The broader health admissions hub separates other professions' writing requirements.
Program deadlines and the important differences
Sources checked October 13, 2026. This is a selected comparison, not a directory of every AA program. Follow the current program page and your application for changes. A published deadline is not proof that a rolling program still has places available.
| Program or campus group | Published timing | What changes your plan |
|---|---|---|
| VCOM–Bluefield University (Auburn and Carolinas campuses) | July 1–October 31, 2026; no early-decision option this cycle | Check the one-page statement instructions and recommender categories before reusing a central package |
| Case Western Reserve University | October 1 priority, December 1 final; rolling review | The priority window has passed; complete and verified status, official test scores and Casper affect review readiness |
| Emory | On or before December 1, 2026, at 4:59 p.m. EST | The program may close earlier at capacity; follow its instructions about official scores and supplemental documents |
| Nova Southeastern, Florida campuses | Published June 15–January 15 range; confirm the applicable cycle on the current campus page | This row covers Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa; do not apply it to every NSU campus |
| University of Colorado | Published timeline describes September–October class finalization and closure under rolling admission | Confirm current availability directly; a live information page does not establish that applications remain open |
CWRU's page says a weekend deadline moves to the next business day. Do not extend that exception to other schools. Its current Casper instructions identify November 12, 2026 as the latest test date for this cycle. That is a separate dependency from the December application deadline. CWRU process.
Emory's calendar mixes current-cycle dates with some older cohort information. The row above uses its explicit December 1, 2026 deadline, not an inferred date from the older orientation line. Emory also says not to submit without official test results. Emory calendar.
For NSU, select the specific campus information before recording a deadline. “Nova deadline” is too broad a label for a spreadsheet when the university offers programs in several locations.
Submission, completion and review are different checkpoints
Use three separate columns:
- Submitted: you sent the application and completed the applicable payment step.
- Complete for this program: the required supporting items have arrived and the school's stated conditions are satisfied.
- Ready for review: any required verification, scores, supplements or other review conditions are in place.
These are planning labels; the portal may use different status names. Record the actual status wording as well. Do not mark a destination ready simply because the central application displays a submission receipt.
CWRU, for example, describes review after verification and receipt of its required test materials. Emory lists verified CASAA materials alongside its supplemental documents and official scores. Their instructions show why one universal “submit by this date” reminder is insufficient. CWRU, Emory.
When instructions seem inconsistent, identify the exact question before contacting admissions: which item, which status, which destination and which deadline? “Can I apply late?” is less useful than asking whether a particular required score must be received by the posted completion date. Do not assume that silence means an extension.
Build a dependency worksheet before choosing an essay deadline
Copy this structure into your planning document. The example entries describe what to record, not universal requirements.
| Item | Who controls the next step? | Evidence of completion | Destination-specific question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central essay | You | Final text saved and checked in the field | Does the school require additional writing? |
| Transcript | Registrar, then receiving service | Required status shown in the application | Which institutions and records are required? |
| Evaluation | Recommender | Submitted status, without requesting confidential text | Does the school specify writer categories or a form? |
| Official test score | Testing service and recipient | Receipt shown where the program requires it | Which test, date and destination code apply? |
| Shadowing documentation | You and the observing site/provider | Required signed record available | Is there a minimum or a school form? |
| Supplemental material | You and, sometimes, another office | School-required document and payment recorded | Is this inside CASAA or a separate step? |
| Verification or review status | Receiving service/program | The actual requested status | Must that status exist by the deadline? |
Add an internal target date, an official deadline, a last-checked date and a source link. Keep the internal date visibly separate so a personal buffer does not become a supposed admissions rule when you share the sheet.
For each unfinished item, write the next action and the person responsible. “Recommendation pending” hides the difference between not having asked, an invitation sent to the wrong address, and a writer completing a letter. Those situations need different responses.
There is no processing-time promise in this worksheet. Choose buffers using current service guidance and the people actually producing the documents. A guessed universal verification period can produce false confidence, particularly near holidays or a deadline.
Recommendation planning: choose evidence, then check the required roles
A well-known clinician who barely knows your work is not automatically the best recommender. Start with what each person can describe from direct observation, then check whether the combination meets the program's requirements.
CWRU asks for three evaluations with both a rating component and a letter, prefers confidential letters, and discourages repurposed letters aimed at a different professional program. CWRU evaluation instructions.
Bluefield specifies personal, clinical, and academic or professional references, with further guidance tied to the applicant's circumstances and how long the writer has known them. Read the current requirements before allocating writers. Do not turn one school's categories into a CASAA-wide rule.
An original allocation example:
| Potential writer | What the writer has actually observed | Useful limitation to recognize |
|---|---|---|
| Physiology instructor | Laboratory reasoning, revision after feedback, academic work | May not have observed you with patients |
| Work supervisor | Reliability, communication, response to an error | May not know the academic demands of AA education firsthand |
| Clinician who supervised or observed your exposure | Your questions, preparation and conduct in that setting | Brief shadowing does not establish independent clinical skill |
This table helps you ask better questions; it does not certify a valid set for every school. A writer can explain what they know without inventing clinical observations. Give them an accurate résumé, relevant deadlines and a short explanation of your AA goal. Let them decide whether they can write a substantive recommendation.
Check the invitation and status through the application's ordinary process. Respect confidentiality and any waiver you choose. You do not need to obtain a confidential letter to manage whether it was submitted, and this statement-review product does not review unseen references.
Shadowing belongs in both the schedule and your understanding of the work
Requirements differ. CWRU recommends at least 16 hours with a CAA in an operating-room setting and discusses alternatives where CAAs are not locally available. Colorado lists at least eight hours of anesthesia observation in the operating room. Bluefield encourages shadowing but does not make it an admission requirement on the cited page. CWRU, Colorado, Bluefield.
These differences change what you must arrange and document. They do not establish a quota of shadowing anecdotes for the personal statement.
After an observation, write private notes about what you saw, what you asked and what someone explained. Keep the account within your role and protect patient privacy. Those notes can later help you explain your professional interest without trying to reconstruct a dramatic scene from memory.
If a required experience cannot be completed on time, ask the program about its actual policy. Do not convert “recommended” into “required,” or assume that another school's flexibility applies. A stronger essay cannot make an unmet prerequisite disappear.
A worked backward schedule for an autumn applicant
The following is a fictional planning exercise, not a guaranteed application schedule. Suppose an applicant is considering CWRU, Emory and an NSU Florida campus on October 13. The applicant has completed the relevant test, can obtain official scores, and has already identified willing recommenders. Those assumptions matter: an applicant without them needs a different plan.
October 13–16: establish whether the destinations remain feasible. Confirm the current campus, cycle and completion rules. Record the December deadlines separately. For NSU Florida, confirm that the published January date applies to your intended cycle before adding it to the plan. Check the applicable Casper schedule for CWRU and the score-before-submission instruction for Emory. Request any missing official materials through the required channels.
Here is the applicant's fictional status sheet after that first check. Each “next action” responds to a different dependency; the statuses are invented for illustration, not reports about a real applicant.
| Destination | Fictional status on October 16 | Next action and owner | What would remain unresolved |
|---|---|---|---|
| CWRU | Official score requested; no Casper appointment booked | Applicant checks availability for an accepted test no later than the published November 12 date | A submitted essay alone would not make the application review-ready |
| Emory | Official score not yet available in the required application record | Applicant checks score reporting and follows Emory's instruction to wait for official results before submitting | An approaching personal target date does not override that instruction |
| NSU Florida campus | Applicant has recorded the campus but has not read its supplemental-document list | Applicant checks that campus's complete-file requirements and records each outstanding item | An applicable January window does not prove supplements are complete or that another campus has the same rules |
If no suitable test appointment or document path exists, the applicant must resolve that problem with the responsible program or service. Moving an internal deadline is not a solution to a missing official requirement.
October 17–23: separate writing from document dependencies. Draft the shared statement while recommenders and record providers handle their tasks. Open every program-materials section and copy the actual supplemental questions into a private checklist. A field labeled “statement” may not ask for the same answer as the central essay.
October 24–30: revise the argument and reconcile requirements. Check that the shared essay explains the AA choice, supports preparation and connects to goals. Review each destination's outstanding items. If a document is delayed, resolve that dependency rather than merely moving the spreadsheet's target date.
From October 31 onward: submit only when the destination's instructions permit, then check receipt. This exercise deliberately provides no universal submission day. Rolling review, supporting materials and individual readiness determine the useful date. Continue checking the actual status and any program communication after submission.
The planning lesson is that the essay and the application run on overlapping schedules. Finish the essay early enough to inspect the pasted version, but do not mistake a polished document for a complete file. The statement guide gives revision examples for the part you control directly.
What can be reused—and what needs a separate decision
| Material | Reuse approach | Recheck before sending |
|---|---|---|
| Central CASAA essay | Keep the professional argument general across destinations | The shared prompt and character allowance |
| School-specific writing | Reuse accurate experiences where relevant, then answer that question | Task, document location and limit |
| Résumé or experience record | Maintain one factual source of dates and responsibilities | Each field's requested format |
| Recommendations | Ask whether the writer can address the AA application accurately | Program categories and submission process |
| Test and shadowing records | Retain the original records | Recipient instructions and required documentation |
Do not reuse a PA or nurse-anesthesia statement by changing the degree name. The applicant's background may overlap, but the professional choice and training route need their own explanation. Likewise, do not assume an additional school's writing can replace the central essay.
The official CASAA essay page says the central essay cannot be edited after submission. Treat the first submission as a genuine writing checkpoint, not a trial version you expect to replace later.
The final decision before you press submit
You should be able to answer four questions: Which destination am I submitting to? What must be complete for that destination? Which items are still controlled by someone else? What exact writing and authorship instructions apply?
Bluefield publishes a restriction against AI-generated or third-party-written statements. Other application attestations may differ; read the actual text rather than inferring permission from a service's availability. Bluefield authorship instructions.
Use a review for the task it can perform. CASAA personal-statement feedback can help you examine the argument in your own draft. It cannot confirm that your references arrived, that a campus remains open, or that you satisfy the program's prerequisites. Those checks belong in your destination worksheet and the official application.
