Kellogg One-Year MBA: Which Courses Count?

Kellogg's One-Year MBA requires statistics and economics before the summer quarter. Missing marketing and operations can be completed during Kellogg's summer. Have Kellogg evaluate your prior courses and approved remediation options before assuming a transcript or online certificate qualifies.

The current rule has two routes

Kellogg's One-Year academics page names statistics and economics as pre-summer coursework. Applicants missing them can use pre-approved virtual options identified through its Eligibility Form. Marketing and operations are available during the summer for students who have not previously studied them. Kellogg One-Year academics and requirements.

For previously completed courses, that page requires a B or better and a transcript graduation date within ten years of application submission. It excludes work experience, AP credit, CFA certification and previously completed online courses. That exclusion must be read alongside the separate offer of pre-approved virtual remediation, not converted into “all online study counts” or “no virtual option exists.”

Kellogg's general Full-Time admissions page says prior business or economics study is not required except for the One-Year Program. The general encouragement to study calculus and statistics does not replace the One-Year eligibility instructions. Kellogg Full-Time application guidance.

Sort your record into three decisions

Create a course inventory before completing the Eligibility Form. For each subject, record the institution, course title, content, grade, delivery mode and graduation date shown on the transcript.

Then assign a provisional status:

Subject or recordWhat needs checking
Prior statistics or economicsWhether Kellogg accepts the content and the prior-course record
Missing statistics or economicsWhich pre-approved option to complete before summer
Missing marketing or operationsHow the subject fits the Kellogg summer schedule

The table is a planning aid, not an eligibility decision. Kellogg supplies content descriptions and makes the evaluation.

Pay particular attention to ambiguous course names. “Business analysis” could contain relevant statistics, or it could describe something different. Send the syllabus or requested documentation rather than assuming the title proves coverage.

Use the current program page and its linked form. An old checklist saved from a search result may describe a different version of the prerequisite structure.

An illustrative online-economics problem

Imagine an applicant with a recent university statistics course graded A, a previously completed online economics course, and no marketing or operations coursework.

They should submit the statistics details for evaluation. They should not mark economics satisfied just because the online course carries a familiar university name: the current prior-course rule excludes previously completed online courses.

Instead, they use the Eligibility Form to ask which pre-approved virtual economics option is available and what completion evidence is required before summer. That route is explicitly different from asking Kellogg to accept the old online course.

The missing marketing and operations subjects belong in the summer-planning discussion. They do not, under the published structure, automatically require another pre-application semester elsewhere. Admission and final course approval still belong to Kellogg.
