Why We Exist

I built Gradpilot for two people - the student I once was and the parent I am today.

As a student, I had no access to counseling - premium or otherwise. I spent months on my college applications, mostly working alone, making it to my dream school Georgia Tech.

As a parent, I am concerned that college admissions has gotten more expensive, more confusing, and now has questionable AI use. With 8 years of AI experience, I am setting out to build a radically different approach - one I'd want my own children to use.

Gradpilot exists to make college admissions ethical, reliable and accessible.

Our Principles

1. Ethical AI in College Admissions

AI should ensure ethics in college admissions, not compromise it.

We partner with external AI detector providers to keep ourselves accountable. We choose providers that have high accuracy, low bias against ESL students, and low false positive rates. We also make these choices so that parents, students & educators can independently verify our own results.

We invite oversight from universities and will work towards providing our rubrics and prompts to approved administrators.

We commit to treating every student's work with respect and never turning college admissions into a black box.

2. Consistent & Reliable Feedback

AI models can be inconsistent and unreliable, while students deserve feedback they can trust.

We build calibrated AIs that give consistent results, not random contradictions.

Students often tell us they prefer "brutal honesty." Our feedback is designed to be critical yet encouraging - pushing students to improve while protecting their authentic stories.

We explain what our system evaluates, so students know what's being measured instead of guessing.

3. Accessibility

College admission guidance should not be reserved for the wealthy.

We already offer counseling at a fraction of the cost of traditional services and have an ambition to work towards greater and broader access for every student regardless of background.
