UC Transfer Admission Rescinded? Conditions and Fixes
Why UC transfer offers get withdrawn: grades, missing transcripts, unreported changes, verification. What to report, by when, and how to write it.
UC Transfer Admission Rescinded? Conditions and Fixes
Every UC transfer offer is provisional until the campus has your final official records. UC says an offer "may be revoked" if information was "incomplete or inaccurate" or your performance "drops significantly". For fall 2027, final transcripts are due July 1 and other documents, including IGETC or Cal-GETC certification, by July 15.
The published rules are mostly about reporting, not grades alone. UCLA lists exactly which changes an admitted transfer must report. Berkeley gives you an update form and says unmet conditions "typically" end in cancellation. Davis's TAG contract sets its own grade and summer rules. The letter that helps is a prompt, factual change report. A plea written after the campus finds the problem does not.
Every UC and campus page quoted below was checked on October 30, 2026. Campus pages for admitted students state no year. Recheck your conditions of admission in your portal when you accept an offer.
Every offer is provisional
UC's admissions decisions page for transfers says: "Offers of admission are provisional until the campus receives your final official transcript and verifies successful completion of all coursework required for UC eligibility." It adds: "If you are not in good standing, the offer of admission may be withdrawn."
Still waiting on a waitlist? The UC transfer waitlist rules say to hold an SIR elsewhere by June 1.
The Quick Reference Guide to UC Admissions (August 2026) states the rule in full:
"If any information in the application is found to be incomplete or inaccurate, or if a student's performance drops significantly after submitting an application, the offer of admission may be revoked. Each campus provides newly admitted students with conditions for admission that must be satisfied prior to enrollment."
UC's 2026–2027 calendar sets the document dates for students admitted for fall 2027. Final transcripts are due "on or before July 1". AP and IB results "and other documents (such as IGETC or Cal-GETC certification)" are due "on or before July 15."
| Risk | What the campus says | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| A grade drop after you applied | UC: offer "may be revoked" if performance "drops significantly" | Report it under your campus's process (below) |
| Not in good standing on the final transcript | UC: offer "may be withdrawn" | Check standing before you order transcripts |
| Missing or late official documents | Berkeley, for transcripts from a foreign school: about 10 extra days, then "subject to cancellation" | Order transcripts in June; confirm receipt in the portal |
| Something in the application was wrong | UC: "incomplete or inaccurate" can end the offer | Correct it yourself, in writing, before the campus finds it |
| An unmet condition of admission | Berkeley: admission "will typically be canceled" | Use the update form as soon as you know |
What you must report: UCLA's list
UCLA's Reporting Changes as an Admitted Transfer Student page is the most specific one we found. It says: "You are required to report any of the following types of changes."
"If you withdrew from or received incomplete grades in any courses which were listed on your application or application update form"
"If you changed any courses which were listed on your application or application update form"
"If your overall GPA has dropped significantly or you received two or more C grades, you received any D or F grades and/or you received a C grade in one of your major preparatory courses"
"If you fail to meet the provisions of your admission contract"
The rest of the page:
- Timing: "We strongly encourage you to report changes as soon as possible and preferably by July 1 (changes after July 1 must still be reported to our office)."
- No hypotheticals: "UCLA will not review hypothetical questions regarding coursework/grade changes."
- The reply: UCLA will "let you know whether they affect your admission within 15 working days. In some cases, your offer of admission can be withdrawn."
- Privacy: "please do not include your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) when contacting us in writing. Please include your UCLA ID number."
Berkeley. Its decision guide says: "Your admission to UC Berkeley will typically be canceled if you fail to meet your conditions of admission. If you believe you will be unable to meet these conditions, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions using the Undergraduate Admissions Update form available April 1." Admitted students "who have misrepresented their coursework, grades, or test scores, may have their admission to UC Berkeley canceled." Two document rules catch transfers. A community college transcript that shows your high school graduation date is not enough: "You must also submit an official transcript from the high school you attended." For transcripts coming from a foreign school that may miss the deadline, "The campus allows you approximately 10 additional days after the deadline to provide all official documentation."
Our view: report the change as soon as the grade posts, not on July 1. The basis is UCLA's "as soon as possible" and Berkeley's update form, which opens April 1. An early report gives the campus time to answer before your fall plans are fixed.
The countercase: do not report a grade you only expect. UCLA will not review hypotheticals. Wait for the posted grade, then report it the same week.
Verification before admission
UC also checks before it decides. The counselor guide describes "a pre-admission verification with a random sample of applicants, who are notified in December", and its list of checkable sections includes Personal Insight Questions and Work Experience. Missing the documents withdraws the application "at all campuses." Falsified information carries penalties "up to and including" revocation of a UC degree. So anything in a transfer PIQ, such as a job, its hours or a role, should be something you can document. What gets checked and what proof works are covered in UC application verification.
TAG and certification traps
UC Davis TAG. The TAG decisions FAQ requires contract courses "with grades of C or higher" and says failure "jeopardizes your admission guarantee." Summer cannot complete TAG-required courses, and a different major means "you may lose your guarantee of admission." The full list of ways a TAG is lost is in the UC TAG PIQ guide.
IGETC and Cal-GETC. UC's IGETC page says the pattern "is available to students if they enrolled at a CCC before fall 2025," and "UC will continue to accept IGETC certifications from students for the foreseeable future." Some colleges "may grant partial IGETC certification to students missing no more than two requirements," but "Students should verify that their UC school/college/major program will accept partial certification." UCLA's Fall 2027 transfer guide lists the Joe C. Wen School of Nursing and the School of Theater, Film and Television with "IGETC/Cal-GETC required: Yes, partial not accepted".
For students who enrolled in fall 2025 or later, UC's Cal-GETC page says "Cal-GETC is the singular general education pattern at all California community colleges," and "Cal-GETC is not a UC admission requirement, but some campuses may prefer that you complete the pattern prior to transferring for selection purposes." If your major requires certification, the certificate is one of the July 15 documents.
How to write the change report
The report is not an essay. UCLA asks for changes "on the application status webpage". Berkeley uses its update form. Use four lines of content:
- What changed: the course, the term and the grade or status, exactly as the transcript will show it.
- When: the date the grade posted or the change happened.
- Which condition it touches: a major preparation course, your GPA, or a contract term.
- What you are doing: a retake, a replacement course or a completed alternative. Only state a plan your college and the campus allow.
Add one sentence of context only if it is true and documented. Do not argue that the grade should not count.
Constructed example: a change report to UCLA after a D in a spring elective
Constructed example, written by us, not a real applicant statement. Context (invented): a Sociology admit at a semester-system community college. The D is in an elective, not in major preparation.
I am reporting a grade change required under my conditions of admission. In spring 2027 I earned a D in Introduction to Astronomy, an elective listed on my Transfer Academic Update. The grade posted on June 2. It is not a major preparation course, and my other spring grades were A, A- and B+. My cumulative transferable GPA changed from 3.62 to 3.51. I was working extra hours in April and stopped attending lecture regularly, which is my responsibility. My UCLA ID is included above. I will send my final official transcript before July 1.
That is 95 words. It names the course, the term, the posting date, the effect on GPA and why the course is not major preparation, which is the distinction UCLA's list makes. It accepts responsibility in one sentence and does not ask UCLA to ignore the grade.
Questions about rescinded UC transfer admission
Can UC rescind a transfer admission for one D?
UCLA requires you to report "any D or F grades" and reviews the change "in the context of your overall record." It says "In some cases, your offer of admission can be withdrawn." No UC page we read publishes how often that happens.
What if my final transcript arrives late?
Berkeley's transfer FAQ answers this only for transcripts coming from a foreign school: it allows "approximately 10 additional days after the deadline", and after that "your enrollment will be subject to cancellation." For any other late transcript, check your own campus's conditions of admission; Berkeley's page publishes no extension for them.
Can I ask UCLA whether a C will hurt before I take the final?
No. UCLA says it "will not review hypothetical questions regarding coursework/grade changes." Report the grade once it posts.
Does a C break my UC Davis TAG?
A C meets the TAG grade term, which is "C or higher." A grade below C in a contract course "jeopardizes your admission guarantee."
