Master's Concentration: On the Transcript?
An advertised master's concentration does not automatically appear on the transcript or diploma. Verify the exact degree name, the institution's record policy and whether the particular concentration is formally approved and must be declared.
The same label can produce different records
The University of Texas at Austin registrar defines concentrations, emphases, options and tracks as approved course arrangements within a major. Its glossary says these are not displayed on the transcript and do not constitute separate credentials. UT Austin catalog glossary.
Illinois takes a different approach to formally approved graduate concentrations: they are recorded on the transcript. Its policy distinguishes those concentrations from other academic specializations that do not have formal concentration status. Illinois Graduate College concentration policy.
Illinois also describes an approval process for a student's intent to pursue a concentration, involving the relevant academic advisers or program leadership. Choosing a cluster of related electives does not automatically establish that the student has declared and completed a formally recorded concentration.
The defensible conclusion is narrow: verify what this institution records for this particular program. Neither example tells you that every specialization elsewhere is formal, or that a transcript entry also appears on the diploma.
Ask for four exact descriptions
Before choosing a program because of a specialization label, request these details:

Ask for the applicable catalog or registrar policy, not just the recruitment page. If the specialization is formally recorded, identify who certifies completion and when you must declare it. If it is informal, evaluate the underlying teaching and research opportunities on their merits.
A label can be useful for describing a course of study, but it cannot substitute for the course of study itself. Compare methods, prerequisites, projects and supervision before treating the presence or absence of a concentration entry as decisive.
An illustrative interest in AI branding
Illustrative case: An applicant wants an AI-focused master's and compares two hypothetical programs. This example does not assert that either university above offers a particular AI concentration.
One program uses a concentration label under a record policy like UT Austin's. The other offers a formally approved graduate concentration under a policy like Illinois's. Both might provide relevant coursework; the official records would not necessarily describe that coursework in the same way.
If the applicant's priority is a transcript entry, they should confirm the second concentration's formal status and declaration requirements. If their priority is a specific technical skill or research project, they should compare the actual curriculum even if the first program has no separate concentration entry.
They should not convert an informal pathway into an invented degree title on a CV or application. Describe the awarded credential accurately and explain the academic focus separately.
