Twente Pre-Master: Can Indians Apply Directly?

For Twente's Sustainable Energy Technology MSc, international applicants cannot apply directly to the pre-master. Check the entry requirements and apply through the master's route; the admissions committee assesses whether a pre-master is appropriate. This is not automatic access for every applicant with missing prerequisites.

Who decides whether you need the bridge?

Twente's SET pre-master admissions page tells international applicants to sign up for the master's after checking its admission requirements. The committee examines their previous education. Where a pre-master is needed, the application can be converted into pre-master enrolment in consultation with the applicant.

The university's overview of pre-master programs describes bridges for applicants with related bachelor's degrees who meet the applicable conditions but cannot enter the corresponding master's directly. Availability and requirements depend on the master's program.

The practical distinction is who assigns the route. Identifying a gap yourself does not reserve a qualifying semester or establish that the program can bridge your background.

Our recommendation: use the international SET application procedure, supported by an accurate course record. Do not choose a different application simply because a Dutch applicant with a different qualification used it successfully.

Prepare an application the committee can evaluate

Make a short evidence map before completing the application:

1. Identify your qualifying degree. Record its awarding institution, subject and completed academic content. Use the international admission instructions relevant to your qualification.
2. Compare the master's prerequisites. For each area, identify the course or assessed work that actually covers it. Where the title is unclear, preserve the official syllabus rather than renaming the module yourself.
3. Separate uncertainty from absence. “My transcript uses a different title” and “I have never studied this subject” are different facts. Document the first; acknowledge the second.
4. Follow the committee's route decision. If it proposes a pre-master, read the conditions and required study before deciding whether to proceed. Do not describe a possible bridge as an admission already secured.

These steps organize the evidence; they do not perform Twente's equivalency assessment. For another Twente master's, start again with that program's own instructions. This SET rule is not a universal Dutch pre-master procedure.

An illustrative Indian engineering application

Illustrative case, created for this guide: An Indian mechanical engineering graduate wants to study Sustainable Energy Technology. Their degree includes thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, but they are uncertain whether their electrical coursework provides the expected preparation.

The applicant initially plans to find a pre-master application and enrol themselves. Under SET's international instructions, the useful action is to check the master's requirements and submit the MSc application through the specified route. They provide the transcript and relevant course descriptions so the committee can assess the preparation.

The result remains a university decision. A related degree may be relevant without guaranteeing direct entry or a pre-master place. If the committee proposes additional study, the applicant can then evaluate that actual plan instead of budgeting time around an imagined semester.

Write only what the chosen application requests
