How Long Does APS Take? Nobody Will Tell You
APS India says it cannot give a fixed processing time. Plan backwards from uni-assist's published dates, and start what a final-year applicant can.
How Long Does APS Take? Nobody Will Tell You
APS India publishes no processing time, and says so itself: it "cannot provide a fixed processing time for every individual case". So plan backwards from the dates that are published — the university deadline and uni-assist's own windows — and treat verification as the step with no promised end.
What APS India actually commits to
From the APS India FAQ, retrieved 12 September 2026:
Processing times depend on the number of applications received and on the response time of schools, boards, universities and other institutions contacted during the verification process.
APS India cannot provide a fixed processing time for every individual case.
Due to the number of applications received, APS India cannot provide individual status updates for every pending application.
The APS processing fee is non-refundable once paid, regardless of the outcome of the verification procedure.
The reason is in the first sentence: part of the clock belongs to your own college, board or university, which has to answer an official verification request. The turnaround figures quoted in guides and forum posts are other applicants' experiences, not a commitment you can plan against.
The dates that are published
These you can plan against, and they come from uni-assist's own deadlines page and VPD page, retrieved 12 September 2026:
- "The application deadline is often July 15th if the course starts in the winter semester" and "often January 15th if the course starts in the summer semester". KIT publishes exactly those two dates for its MSc Informatics, for EU and non-EU applicants alike.
- "Apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the deadline expires."
- "You will usually receive your evaluation result in 4 to 6 weeks", counted from the day uni-assist receives the online application form.
- A VPD application "usually takes 4 to 6 weeks", and the VPD "is valid for one year from its date of issue".
Work back from the deadline: eight weeks for uni-assist as advised, and before that the verification step with no published duration. That ordering is the real answer to "when do I start" — APS first, because it is the one you cannot bound.
Final year: what you can start now
The FAQ is unusually direct about not applying too early:
Applicants should normally apply with the academic documents relevant to their intended admission pathway.
APS cannot keep applications open while applicants wait for future examination results or additional semester marksheets.
And, on timing: applicants "should not submit incomplete documents or apply before the academic stage relevant to their intended admission pathway has been completed". If a later qualification changes your admission category, the FAQ says a new evaluation "requires a new payment".
So the sequence for a final-year B.Tech student is:
- Identify the qualification your master's admission actually rests on, and which documents evidence it.
- Check which APS procedure applies to you using the agency's own checklists and requirements quiz, then confirm your individual case with APS. Requirements for specific applicant groups have changed; ask the agency rather than a forum thread.
- Do the work that does not wait. Shortlist programmes and record each one's document list. Collect semester marksheets, the study and examination regulations and module descriptions, and any notarised translations. A VPD is valid for a year from issue, so an early one can still serve the next round.
- Draft the letter now, while you have time to revise it, not in the week your certificate finally arrives.
Whether your universities want the certificate at all is a separate question, answered in is APS for admission or only for the visa.
Check your own draft
The letter is the one item on this list whose quality you still control in the final week. Plot the rest of the sequence against the Germany application calendar for 2027 entry, and if the VPD is the step that slips, what to do when it has not arrived is a separate question with a separate answer. Our German motivation letter guide sets out what German universities ask it to do; the German master's motivation-letter rubric and graduate statement review address your draft. Neither verifies documents nor rules on eligibility. More guides sit in the graduate application hub.
