For uni-assist, document the minimum grade required to receive your Indian degree, not merely to pass one course or semester. Use the grading rules for your specific program and cohort. A transcript showing only subject pass marks may leave this question unanswered.
Why a marksheet can leave the grading scale unclear
Uni-assist’s India requirements ask for the maximum and degree-award minimum, with program and batch or graduation-year relevance. They explicitly distinguish course or semester passing grades from graduation requirements.
The missing item may therefore be the explanation of the scale, even when every mark is visible. This is separate from whether your German master’s prerequisites match: one question concerns the grading system, the other concerns academic content.
Build a registrar request that answers the question
Start with your transcript’s reverse side and the academic regulations governing your cohort. If the answer remains unclear, ask the issuing institution to identify these facts:

Our recommendation: send the registrar the actual evaluator’s request alongside this list. Ask for confirmation of the institution’s rule, not for a lower minimum that would make a conversion look better.
If your institution does not define one overall graduation CGPA, explain that ambiguity to the registrar and uni-assist. Do not fill the gap with another university’s minimum or a number chosen by an online calculator.

Worked example: two minimums on a ten-point scale
Illustrative case created by GradPilot: A university’s regulations require 4/10 to pass an individual course and 5/10 overall for award of a particular degree. An applicant supplies a marksheet whose reverse lists only the course grading scale.
The missing evidence is the 5/10 degree-award rule for that program and cohort. The applicant should locate its official regulation or obtain institutional clarification. A personal note saying “my passing grade is four” does not explain the distinction.
This example is deliberately hypothetical. It does not assert that every Indian university uses these numbers or calculate an official German equivalent.
Should I report the percentage or CGPA?
Supply the official records and the grading information requested. If both appear and the evaluator raises an inconsistency, ask the institution to explain their relationship. Do not selectively omit one scale to improve the apparent result.
